Bullets in Esquire Magazine…

I had a great time shooting (sic) this image for the January issue of Esquire Magazine.

Based on the famous MIT image of a bullet passing through an apple (below) this bookish version, unlike the original,  was made in several sections. First the book was taken to a shooting range and shot with a rifle (so as to make the correct holes etc). It was then set up with the blue background on an apple box in the studio. The bullet was suspended on fishing line and the puffs of smoke were baby powder and torn up paper blown with compressed air. Each element was photographed separately and combined later in Photoshop.
